Suggestions for a Quality Scientific Writing
Whether we like to write or not, at some point in our lives, we always feel the need to write. For example, we have to write, even if it is the worst time in our student life. When we say assignments, presentations, dissertations, we write scientific articles. Writing is a must, especially in social sciences. Because social sciences are transferred from generation to generation by writing, and they maintain their permanence. In this article, I will give you suggestions on how to write a good article in more social sciences.
The source of this article is Deirdre N. McCloskey – Writing About Economic Issues. It is a book for anyone who is interested in social sciences, not just economics.
Tip #1 - The author first says that reading is necessary to write.
Reading is indispensable for a scientific article. Literature review, which we call literature review, is the prerequisite of scientific writing.
Tip #2 - We shouldn't wait to finish the scanning phase to start typing.
While we are continuing the scanning phase, if we have an idea or sentence in mind, it must be written down. As we write, we think, as we think, we read.
We said that our scanning is over, we have completely moved to the writing phase. We wrote and wrote, but we got stuck somewhere. As soon as we have nothing left to say, it becomes clear that we need to read more and research more. We cannot completely stop reading until the article is finished.
"If you want to write your own future, do not put the pen in the hands of others" - Alexander Pushkin
Tip #3 - Paragraphs should neither be too long nor too short.
Long paragraphs bore the reader, while short paragraphs give the text a lifeless quality.
Tip #4 - We should avoid insults.
If we are not writing criticism, we should not criticize theories and perspectives. We should not use sentences such as "This is complete nonsense", "This hypothesis is fictitious".
Tip #5 - We write to be understood and read.
Scientific writings can be instructive as long as they are clear. Artful words, meaningless repetitions, complex graphics and tables should not be used. We should improve our vocabulary and for this we should read lots of books and articles. We can also use a dictionary. Good writing is not a talent, and with so many books on writing, no one can argue that writing is a talent. The first rule of writing is to be confident and love to read. The rest comes naturally and we improve as we write.
